Freegal

We now have a new site available to our patrons called Freegal that allows our customers to stream music free of cost as  long as they have a valid library card.

Please look at this training site to find out how to use the service as well as how to explain it to our customers.

Flyer approval process

Greetings – Team Leaders met with Donna Jackson and here are the steps we agreed to follow in regards to flyers/signs for NL. Please note that Donna Jackson will begin the flyer/signs approval process effective 4/7/14.

1.     Staff member designs the flyers/signs and sends them to their manager. Manager checks them to ensure they meet the criteria and guidelines posted on the NL-Blog.

2.     Once manager reviews the flyers/signs, he/she forwards them to Elva Alvarez, along with completed Print Shop Request Form.

3.     NL-Admin Team will review flyers/signs sent via email from the managers only. If the Manager is on vacation, the Assistant Manager can submit the flyers/signs.

4.     After reviewing the flyers/signs, NL-Admin team will forward them to the Branding Manager who will review them every Monday.

5.     The Branding Manager will approve all the flyers on Tuesday and call you if something wasn’t approved.

6.     All approved flyers and signs will be sent to the Print Shop for printing and will be printed one week after the approval.

7.     Any flyer request received Tuesday through Friday, will be reviewed the following Monday. Note, if you send your flyer to Brandon for approval on Friday afternoon, chances are very good that he will not be able to approve it, send it into Elva, and get it to Donna in time for Monday's approvals with Donna Jackson.

Please let your Team Leader know if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Shammi Gill

More on Hoopla

Hi,
hoopla’s development team is working continuously to provide a solution to resolve the audio issue with Music and Audiobooks for iOS 7.1 devices. At this time Apple has not been able to remedy the issue. Therefore, hoopla is releasing an update to the app which should be available to your users within the next 48 hours and will address the issue temporarily as follows:

hoopla will be temporarily disabling the download function for Music and Audiobooks ONLY for those devices that have downloaded the iOS 7.1 version.
All other iOS devices will operate as hoopla was intended.

hoopla apologizes for the inconvenience that this may cause.

The messaging that our customers will see with the release if they attempt to download instead of streaming:

MUSIC:      Sorry, downloading music is temporarily disabled on iOS 7.1 devices.

AUDIOBOOK:  Sorry, downloading audiobooks is temporarily disabled on iOS 7.1 devices.

As always, thank you for relaying this information to our customers.

Best regards,

Mary Wagoner, M.L.I.S.

Shepard-Acres Homes Library is now a float hub

Hi team,

Acres Homes is going to be a Float Hub to take some of Meyer’s overflow. There is going to be a training soon (Collection Development will be coming out to do the training).

I have already been trained on how to do the Float Hub, since Dixon started while I was still there. Meyer is going to go ahead and send some boxes/bins to Acres. I anticipate they are probably going to arrive on a day when I’m not there. When the bins arrive, the first thing to do is check in all of the items, and if any activate holds, go ahead and fill the holds. Anyone can do this. I propose that someone checks in the items, and then leave all of the items on a cart. That way, when Collection Development comes out, we’ll have some examples to work with.

We should also figure out which shelves in the workroom we’d like to use for the project. Collection Development believes we can handle 4 bins/boxes per week, since there are shelves in the workroom we can use.

Thanks!

Sara

More Flyer Instruction

Point 6 below actually means that no images whatsoever should be used on a flyer.

Communications has asked that we no longer use images in our flyers at all.

When downloading the template, please go ahead and delete the box for images.

Thanks,
Brandon

Creating Flyers

Hi, Team,

Please see the following guidelines for creating a sign; or flyers.  Please send your requests to Elva Alvarez who will do a cursory check to see if the guidelines have been met.  Please designate if it is a sign for posting for a one-time event.  If it is a flyer meant for distribution, please attach the Print Shop request.  If your request is approved by your respective Team Leader, they will forward your Print Shop request to Print Shop and copy you.

Here are some basic guidelines:
1.    Myriad Pro is used for most headers, and body content of our brochures, flyers, and other materials. In cases where Myriad Pro is not available, Arial can be used as an alternate font for header and body of content.

2.    Use correct library name -
For example, it’s not Acres Homes Library.
Correct name is Shepard-Acres Homes Neighborhood Library

It’s not Collier Neighborhood Library.
Correct name is Collier Regional Library

3.    When adding dates to flyer, the format should be as follows:
Friday, March 21, 2014
Not – 3/21/14

4.    When adding time, format should be as follows:
2 PM – 4 PM
Not – 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.

5.    If you advertise a class, use the complete class name on the sign.

6.    Please do not add photos or graphics.

Thanks!~
Best regards,

Mary Wagoner
